Alcohol Not Involved in Fatal Auto Accident

While tragedy struck earlier last month, police did determine one positive thing about a North Carolina auto accident - alcohol did not play a role. This came as reassuring news for a family that is reeling from the death of a husband and father.

When officers first received a phone call about two missing people they had no idea what to expect. The father and his 9-year-old daughter were known to be missing, but their whereabouts completely unknown. A few days later search-and-rescue teams found the wrecked car where the two people were. Inside they found the father dead behind the wheel and his daughter, still alive, trapped inside.

As part of the investigation, police took blood samples to determine whether the father had been drinking at the time. The samples were returned from the lab this week and showed that alcohol was not a contributing factor to the fatal car accident. However, speed is still being named as the number one cause at this time.
