Speeding and Drunk Driving Lead to Serious Pick Up Truck Crash

Police report that a 17 year old died during a trucking accident.  According to officers, the Jamestown boy was riding in a pickup truck that crashed into a utility pole.  The driver of the truck was identified as 25 year old Andrew Wade Smith.  He was operating a 1996 Dodge Ram and traveling north when he lost control of his vehicle.

After officers investigated the accident, the found that Smith was driving 90 miles per hour when he lost control of his truck.  The vehicle then crossed the median and struck the utility pole.  Smith was ejected and 17 year old Steven Zachary Rogers was left trapped inside the truck.

Both Smith and Rogers sustained major injuries and were transferred to Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center.  Rogers died shortly after at the hospital and Smith remains in critical condition.  Police say that charges will be filed at a later time because alcohol was involved as well as speeding.
