Slip & Fall Case against Casino Gets Settled

New reports indicate that a slip and fall case settled on June 11th.  The case against Jazz Casino Company LLC had been set for a one-day bench trial in Orleans Parish Civil Court District on June 28th.  However, a letter was sent by the plaintiff's attorney to Judge Paulette Irons announcing a settlement.

Prior to the settlement, Melinda Abbey had filed a lawsuit against Jazz Casino Company LLC because she said she was involved in a slip and fall accident while at Harrah's Casino in downtown New Orleans.  In June 2006, she filed a petition against the casino to seek monetary damages for her injuries.

Abby said that she "sustained injuries to her back, right hip, left hand, ankle and neck".  She also said that permitting a dangerous condition and/or defective condition to exist on the floor of the premises, the casino was liable for her injuries.

In November 2006, both Abby and the defendants agreed to a stipulated protective order.  The order stated that the parties mutually agreed to allow certain documents produced by the casino to remain private and confidential.

At this time, the amount of the settlement has not been disclosed.
