| Caregiver Convicted of Torture and Elder Abuse |
| Posted By Lanier Law Group |
 |
In the state of California, a former caregiver at a nursing home was convicted of elder abuse and torture. The defendant, 22 year old Cesar Ulloa, was accused of torturing patients who suffered from dementia. On Wednesday, he was sentenced to six years to life in prison for torturing an 80 year old resident and abusing three others in 2007.
Ulloa was sentenced after the victims' family members made statements in court. They all spoke of their anger and also their sadness. In April 2010, a jury found that Ulloa was guilty of torture for seven counts of nursing home abuse.
Reports indicate that the abuse took place at Silverado Senior Living in Calabasas, California. The facility specializes in working with patients who have dementia as well as Alzheimer's disease. In 2008, police arrested Ulloa for abusing patients after conducting an 11 month investigation.

| Filing a Premises Liability Claim |
| Posted By Lanier Law Group |
 |
In the state of North Carolina, people who have been injured while visiting other people's properties may file a personal injury lawsuit known as a premises liability claim. When people file premises liability claims and they are successful, meaning they win an award or settle their cases, they can receive damages for their medical bills, lost wages, future lost wages, trauma and pain and suffering.
In order for people to be eligible to file claims, they must be able to prove a few things. First, they must be able to prove that a dangerous condition existed on the other person's property. Second, they must prove that the person know the dangerous condition existed and did nothing to correct it (this is called proving negligence). Finally, people must be able to prove that because the person was negligent, they suffered injuries.
All of these elements are crucial in the success of any premises liability claim. However, they can be very difficult to prove without help from a North Carolina personal injury lawyer, like the lawyers at the Lanier Law Group. If you have been injured while visiting another person's property, contact our law office now!

According to NBC news, the conditions discovered after surprise investigations in an Illinois nursing home were found to be not only disgusting, but deplorable. The state decided to conduct an investigation of one nursing home that yielded 37 pages of nursing home violations.
Reports revealed that patients within the home were left in soiled beds and that many linens were not only thin, but also stained brown. Many of the residents' hair were found to be greasy and unclean, too. Aside from neglecting patients, the nursing home was not administering medications correctly and medical records were kept in boxes that were soaked with water.
The facility housed 79 residents and employed 90 nursing home staff members. However, after the investigation concluded, the state shut the facility's doors due to the nursing home negligence that had been ongoing.

| Man Sues for Childhood Sexual Abuse |
| Posted By Lanier Law Group |

According to Robby Price, he was just 14 years of age in 1999 when a Catholic Priest sexually abused him in Charlotte, North Carolina. Eight years following the abuse, he kept his mouth shut and told no one of his dramatic ordeal.
He told news sources that while he suffered in silence, he endured flashbacks and painful nightmares. His past abuse was weighed so heavily upon him that he often through of committing suicide. These feelings prompted Price to take legal action against his molester.
This past Friday, Price secured a great victory after the Roman Catholic Diocese of Charlotte announced that it would pay him a $1 million settlement. The priest that abused Price, Reverend Robert Yurgel, has since been imprisoned.
The Diocese set aside $47,500 to pay for Price's counseling, therapy and medication over the next five years. During Yurgel's sentencing, Price had a chance to speak out. He said to the former priest, "You are a liar, a thief of childhoods and a child molester." Price says that he is starting to feel closure at this time.

| North Carolina Ranks #6 for Most Tractor Trailer Truck Accidents |
| Posted By Lanier Law Group |
 |
Recently, ABC11 ran a significant story about the number truck accidents that occur nationwide. According to the news station, the state of North Carolina ranks number 6 for the most tractor trailer accidents. ABC11 says that in 2009, more than 50 percent of trucks in North Carolina received either safety or maintenance violations. Approximately 12% of trucks were so poorly maintained that they had to be put out of service.
When you think about it, the figures are quite startling as thousands upon thousands of trucks are driven on North Carolina streets and highways. If 50% of the trucks that are on the road in the state are poorly maintained or even defective, major accidents are very likely and could easily lead to the injuries and deaths of innocent people.
The Lanier Law Group hopes that the state of North Carolina will crack down on trucking companies and drivers who are violating safety and maintenance laws so that innocent people are not harmed.

| Report Claims Johnson & Johnson Knew Tylenol Children's Product Was Tainted |
| Posted By Lanier Law Group |
 |
According to a recent report from "Natrural News," the massive recall by McNeil Consumer Healthcare (a subsidiary of Johnson & Johnson) of its infants' and children's line of Tylenol products is proving to be even more vicious. The FDA found that the drugs were contaminated with dangerous bacteria, as well as foreign materials that appeared as black specks. In a recent story published by USA Today, it has been revealed that McNeil actually knew about the bacterial contamination but kept shipping the products anyway.
The recent FDA report specified that the drug doses were also not properly formulated by McNeil in its infant and children' medicines, which was part of the reason for the recall. Incorrect concentrations of active ingredients in medicines like these puts potentially millions of children at risk.
If your child has become ill or is suffering from health complications after consuming Tylenol, it's important to speak with an attorney right away.
