Major Auto Accident Leaves 3 Dead
A major auto accident in Greene County, NC left three people dead on Friday night. A sport utility vehicle crashed head on with a passenger car on US 13/258, close to Newell Road.
The SUV, driven by 24-year-old Shirley Mitchell, was driving along US 13/258 when her car swerved over the center line and collided with the passenger car. Upon impact, a fire was started in the SUV. Mitchell died on the scene along with Chiquita Taylor, 20, and Jonathon Lucas, 25. A third passenger in the car was taken to the hospital in critical condition. That person's identity has not been released as he/she is a minor.
At this time North Carolina State Highway Patrol officers are still investigating the accident as the reason for Mitchell's crossing into the opposing traffic's lane is still unknown. The car as well was not registered to her, but to a Debbie Taylor who was not in the vehicle at the time.
