2009 Census of Fatal Occupational Injuries Report Released
Recently, the Census of Fatal Occupational Injuries was released for the year 2009. The report encompassed startling statistics and some of the national key findings are detailed below:
Wage, salaried and self-employed workers experienced a decline in the total hours worked in 2009 and the number of injuries amongst wage and salary workers decreased by 20%.
Fatal injuries among self-employed workers decreased by 3% in the year 2009.
The number of construction workers involved in fatal construction accidents declined by 16% when compared to 2008.
There was a 6% increase in the number of fatal workplace accidents that occurred within the grounds cleaning and maintenance sectors in 2009.
Transportation related incidents played a role in 2/5 of workplace injuries during 2009.
