Major Trucking Accident Injures Two
On September 1st, two people suffered serious injuries during a major accident near Candor at 9:20 AM. Police say that a young mother, 19-year-old Amber Phillips, had to be airlifted to UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill immediately after the collision.
The accident occurred when a 2004 at minivan traveling north on Cole Road by 48-year-old Randall Lomands crossed the center line. According to the Highway Patrol, the minivan hit the left side of Phillips' 1979 pickup truck.
At the time of the truck accident, Phillips' three-year-old son was secure in his car seat and did not suffer any injuries.
Lamonds had to be transported by ambulance to FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital said Trooper Dale Walter, who was investigating the accident. He said that Phillips was stable at the scene and that Lamonds was charged with traveling left of the center.
The child was taken home by his grandmother while his mother remains in the hospital.
