Nursing Home Fined for Maggots

In Portland, Maine, it was reported that a local nursing home is being fined $10,000.  The nursing home received the fine after maggots were found on one of its residents.

According to reports, the resident lived at St. Joseph's Manor and later died from unrelated health problems.

When reports were released about the maggots, the Department of Health and Human Services determined that the nursing facility was guilty of negligence and neglect.  It was also determined that the nursing home administrator did not meet state licensing requirements.

Due to its negligence, the nursing home was fined $10,000, which is the maximum permitted by state law.
