Anesthesiologist Accused of Sexually Assaulting Patients

After being accused of sexually assaulting two patients during surgeries, an anesthesiologist has pleaded not guilty to the charges.

According to police reports Yashwant B. Giri, 58, has been charged with one felony count of sexual penetration with a foreign object and one felony count of sexual battery of an institutionalized victim. If he is found guilty of both charges, he could receive as much as eight years in prison. The district attorney was able to build a case around eyewitness testimony that Giri was seen sexually abusing a 16-year-old girl and a 36-year-old woman. A nurse witnessed the sexual abuse of the young girl while she was unconscious from medication. The woman was also unconscious when another employee noticed Giri fondling her breasts.

Even though the nurse reported the incident to hospital staff, action was not immediately taken against Giri. However, the hospital finally notified the Placentia Police Department, who ultimately filed the warrants for his arrest.
