Workplace Injury Rate Declined in NC

Safety measures have improved in North Carolina, leading to a decline in the state's workplace injury rate.

According to one statistic company, 2010 saw a record low in workplace injuries. The department links this decrease to higher insurance premiums, an increase in negligence lawsuits and training programs that force employers to provide a higher standard of safety at the workplace. In total, the injury rate was 3.1 cases for every 100 full-time workers. This represents one of the lowest rates nationwide. North Carolina is preceded by New York, Texas and Louisiana with the lowest rates.

While this is significant in itself, it is even more impressive when compared to the state's injury rates in 1999. Since that year, injuries have decreased 45.6 percent. At that time, there were 5.6 injuries per 100 full-time employees. These figures are accurate even when accounting for unemployment, outsourcing or mass layoffs.
