Advocate Group Thinks Video Cameras will Decrease Nursing Home Negligence

Since nursing home negligence has been featured in newspapers across one state recently, a victim advocate group is petitioning the state legislature to avoid further abuses.

The group is asking legislatures to apportion funds to install video cameras in nursing homes across the state. While the group was quick to explain that not all nursing homes foster and encourage negligence, they believe there are too many that slip under the radar. The group says video cameras will help protect nursing home residents and monitor the activities of healthcare professionals that are not doing their jobs properly.

Not only will the cameras protect the residents, the group explains, but staff members as well. In any case where negligence is reported, the staff member can use the video camera footage to his/her advantage to prove innocence. However, this footage can also be used to support claims of negligence when they arise.
