Increase in Teenage Auto Accidents Reported in North Carolina

When Results Matter Most, Hire a Heavyweight

When a teenager is given a license, it can be an exciting time for the child but a scary time for the parents. With such limited experience on the road, teenagers are more likely to get into auto accidents than other demographics. In some states like North Carolina, there has been an alarming increase in teenage driver deaths over the past few years. The Centers for Disease Control released a study earlier this year documenting the rate of teenage deaths for 2010 and 2011. What researchers found was that the first half of 2010 saw an 10% increase in teenage drivers ages 16 through 17 that were involved in accidents. This same trend was also observed during the first half of 2011 as well.

This increase in teenage accidents and fatalities has been linked to several factors such as distracted driving and inexperience behind the wheel. Additionally, with the cell phone being so prevalent amongst young people, more and more car accidents are being caused by both teenagers and adults alike who are texting while driving.
