Man Gets Caught Through Facebook Post
An Oregon man learned that the best way to get caught committing a crime is to talk about it on Facebook. On New Year's Day police showed up at his door after they were alerted to a Facebook post he wrote about driving drunk.
The post was as follows:
"Drivin drunk... classic 😉 but to whoever's vehicle i hit i am sorry. :P,"
Police said the man’s Facebook confession wasn't sufficient evidence for a drunk driving charge. Instead, he was charged with "two counts of failing to perform the duties of a driver".
Despite the potential of leaving a very obvious trail, a surprising number of people use Facebook in the aftermath of committing various crimes. A woman posted an "LOL" status update in reference to her alleged involvement in a drunk driving accident. A judge, who was not too happy about the post, sentenced her to two days in jail. Two men robbed an Internet cafe, but one of them logged into Facebook and forgot to log out. The mistake led police right to him.
