More Deer Equals More Car Accidents

When Results Matter Most, Hire a Heavyweight

Now that deer mating season is in full swing, the North Carolina Department of Transportation wants to warn drivers about the increased presence of deer on the roads.

Each year, there are 20,000 car accidents related to animals in North Carolina. Of those, 90 percent involve deer crossing the road. In the past three years alone, 3,400 people have been injured in animal-related crashes and 17 more lost their lives. Over $135 million has been reported in damages caused by animal-related crashes, a figure that shocked many after the DOT released its annual report.

In order to prevent more deer crashes, the DOT warns drivers to be extra cautious between the hours of 5 p.m. and 7 a.m. when deer activity is high and visibility is reduced.
