Police Studying Video of Alleged Nursing Home Abuse

When Results Matter Most, Hire a Heavyweight

Police are now studying the surveillance camera footage showing the attack of an elderly woman in a nursing home.

According to CBS 2's Josh Landis, the video is impossible to understand and hard to watch. It shows Modesto Alvarado, 87, as she was beaten by her attacker, a nurse's aide, in her own bed. Even the most seasoned police officers were disturbed by the images of Julia Galvan attacking Alvarado over and over. North Bergen police Lt. Frank Cannella said you can see Galvan "turns her body around, turns back as if she forgot something, strikes her again on the top of the head."

The nurse's aide has been arrested and charged with neglect of the elderly, assault and abandonment. It is no surprise that she was also fired from the Harborage Nursing Home where the nursing home abuse took place.

If it weren't for Alvarado's daughter suspecting something was amiss at the nursing home, the attack might have gone undetected. However, she had installed a secret "nanny cam" in Alvarado's room just a few weeks before.
