The driver of the truck was identified as 25 year old Andrew Wade Smith. He was operating a 1996 Dodge Ram and traveling north when he lost control of his vehicle.

After officers investigated the accident, the found that Smith was driving 90 miles per hour when he lost control of his truck. The vehicle then crossed the median and struck the utility pole. Smith was ejected and 17-year-old Steven Zachary Rogers was left trapped inside the truck.
