Pedestrian Killed from North Carolina

In Jasper, South Carolina, it is reported that a pedestrian was hit and then killed around 5:45 AM on Tuesday. The auto accident took place on Highway 17, which is about 8 miles south of Hardeeville.

According to law enforcement, the victim had been walking shirtless in the middle of the road when he was suddenly struck by a Ford sedan. The driver of the motor vehicle was 63-year-old Oliver Smith. Police say that Smith did not suffer any injuries and will not face any criminal charges.

At this time, the victim has only been identified as a male from the state of North Carolina. Officers say he died at the scene of the accident.

Following the collision, traffic was stalled for a few hours near the Talmadge Bridge while police investigated.
