April is Sexual Abuse Awareness Month

Both men and women can become victims of sexual abuse, a fact that the Alliance Against Family Violence knows all too well. In order to raise awareness about sexual abuse at home, at work and at school, the nonprofit organization has created a campaign for the month of April. The theme for April is "Engaging Men in our Community to Fight Against Sexual Assault." Although men are more often than not the aggressor in a domestic violence situation, the organization says that does not mean that other men cannot help end domestic violence. The alliance hopes that by enlisting men in communities across America to speak out against violence, more men will have the courage to come forward and discuss this prevalent problem in our society.

According to the alliance, one in every five women will become sexually assaulted and one in every seventy-one men will become victims at the hands of men or women. One man, A.R., has come forward with his personal story of sexual assault. He told news sources he was abused for fourteen years starting at the age of six. If you or someone you know has endured sexual abuse and you would like to seek justice, contact the Lanier Law Group, P.A. now to set up a time to discuss your situation with a compassionate North Carolina personal injury lawyer from our office.
