A medical malpractice case in Wright County, Minneapolis was closed this week when a jury found the New River Medical Center negligent. The center, formerly known as the Monticello Big Lake Community, became involved in the case of a 36-year-old mother and wife. The family's lawyer finally convinced the jury overseeing the case to award the family $4,623,924 in damages.
As part of the settlement the family will be awarded $750,000 in past loss of advice, assistance, companionship, protection, and comfort, as well as $220,000 in past economic losses. These figures were based on the services that she would have received should she not have died under their care. The family was then awarded $2.2 million for future loss of advice, comfort, companionship, protection, and assistance, and $1.4 million for future economic losses.
