Heatstroke in Children and Adults

When Results Matter Most, Hire a Heavyweight

Heatstroke can be a very real threat to your child’s health. If a caretaker has your child, and leaves him or her in the car even for a matter of minutes, it can cause your child to get heatstroke. This illness can be fatal, or create brain damage. In order to avoid heatstroke, you should never leave your child unattended in a vehicle. You should never let the kids play in an unattended vehicle during the hot summer months either, and keep the doors locked to remove the temptation.

Heatstroke disasters happen fast. In fact, the National Highway Traffic Safety Association says that even when it is in the 60s outside, the inside of a car can heat up to 110 degrees. This is because the glass windows of cars often create a sort of sauna that will soak up available heat. If you left your child in another’s care and he or she got heatstroke because he or she was left in a car, then this is grounds for a lawsuit.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention also shows that men and women are at risk to heatstroke in a hot work environment. Research shows that exposure to extreme heat can result in illness or injury. When a company insists that employees keep working even in excruciatingly hot temperatures, it can cause dizziness, eventual unconsciousness, and in some cases, death. You should avoid wearing non-breathing clothing at work, and tell an employer that you are worried about the breathability of your clothing if you are forced to wear a hot uniform.

Also, you should ask your employer to allow you to take your lunch break during the hottest part of the day. Also, make sure that the workplace has plenty of water to drink during the day. Employers should encourage their employees to drink water rather than soda or alcohol on the job. If a company does not care for the welfare and health of their employees, and you are injured due to heat stress, then talk to a personal injury attorney today!
