One man is lucky to escape with his life after crashing his motorcycle on Linwood-Southmont Boulevard.

North Carolina Highway Patrol troopers were dispatched to a call around 3:30 PM to help a man who was involved in a serious motorcycle accident.

When they arrived, the victim, 37-year-old Roger Leath Jr., was laying on the ground after being thrown from his motorcycle. He told officers that he had been driving southbound when he tried to pass a vehicle. However, he crossed over a double yellow line and didn't see the vehicle approaching from the opposite direction.

Leath swerved to avoid the crash but ran off the road instead, hitting a power pole before being thrown from his bike. When emergency crews arrived, Leath was transported by helicopter to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center.

At this time, officers are still investigating the collisions and they have yet to determine how fast Leath was traveling when he swerved off the roadway.
