A young girl was killed last year in a drunk driving accident and the three people charged with causing the lethal collision appeared in court last week in Raleigh, North Carolina. The victim, 17-year-old E.M., was riding in an SUV last January when the driver lost control. Allegedly, the vehicle went off the roadway and hit several trees before catching on fire. The coroner's report revealed that at the time of her death, the young victim was legally intoxicated. Several open bottles of liquor were also found in the SUV along with a plastic bag containing marijuana.
After the accident, one of the suspects was charged with providing alcohol to a minor. The defendant, A.D.J.G., 21, appeared in court along with H.R.S., 18 and S.M.M., 17 this week. They were charged with underage purchase of alcohol and hosting a party where minors were served alcohol. Police believe that the driver was going around 75 MPH at the time of the crash. His blood-alcohol level was found to be .29 percent, well above the state legal limit of 0.08. A.D.J.G. has been charged with driving under the age of 21 while intoxicated and felony death by motor vehicle for his role in the crash.
