Toddler’s Death Sparks Talk of Banning Pit Bulls in One County

When Results Matter Most, Hire a Heavyweight

Officials in Montgomery County are debating whether to ban pit bulls from their district altogether. News sources say the death of a baby boy reignited a debate that has been simmering for years. According to Montgomery County Animal Control, pit bulls have accounted for 13% of animal bites that broke through skin over the past two years. The latest incident, the fatal mauling of a 23-month-old boy, was the last straw for many people in the county. The people that support the ban say that pit bulls have a vicious streak that comes from their DNA.

This is not the first time that such a law has been considered in the county. The death of a 10-year-old boy in 2009 prompted the creation of "Justin's Law," which would have banned pit bulls in the area, but it was never passed. However, there are some laws regarding "dangerous dogs" that were enacted in 2007 by state legislators that penalize owners that keep animals that pose a threat to the community.

If you suffered physically and/or emotionally due to a dog bite and you suspect dog owner negligence played a role in your attack, contact the Lanier Law Group, P.A. today to set up a consultation with a North Carolina personal injury lawyer from our office now.
