Organ Damage

North Carolina Organ Damage Lawyer

Understanding Organ Damage

A human organ is an independent part of the body that carries out one or more special functions. Some of the most vital organs in the body include the heart, the liver, the skin, the lungs, kidneys and the brain. When one of these vital organs is damaged in a personal injury accident, the accident victim can experience serious life-threatening complications, some of which lead to the wrongful death of the accident victim.

There are a wide variety of accidents that can cause organ damage, or even organ failure. Such accidents include: auto accidents, medical malpractice, truck accidents, workplace accidents, motorcycle accidents, construction accidents, and many more. Serious accidents & injuries can cause the following:

  • Traumatic brain injuries
  • Liver damage
  • Acute kidney injuries
  • Heart failure
  • Third degree burns
  • Lung damage

Personal Injury Attorney Serving North Carolina

Organ damage refers to damage occurring to major organs fed by the circulatory system. When an organ is severely damaged in an accident, it can lead to organ failure of one of one or more of the major functions of the body, such as the cardiovascular system or the renal system. How an accident victim is affected by damage to an organ depends upon the severity of the damage and the location of the injury. For example, someone may suffer temporary brain injuries from a minor concussion, whereas with a severe traumatic brain injury from an auto accident, can lead to the wrongful death of the accident victim.

When a person injures his or her heart, lungs, liver or kidneys in a serious accident, he or she may suffer debilitating injuries, some of which may lead to death of the accident victim. In other cases in which the victim sustained serious injuries but survived, they may require surgery and round-the-clock care. They may experience permanent dysfunction of the affected organ, and they may require a host of other medical interventions, leading to a complete loss of quality of life. Other serious forms of organ damage can lead to blindness, deafness, kidney disease, loss of consciousness (vegetative state), and much more. At The Lanier Law Group, P.A., we have over 65 years of combined experience of personal injury law.
