Bikefest Comes to Sad Ending

When Results Matter Most, Hire a Heavyweight

The annual bikefest activities in Myrtle Beach came to a sad end this year when one man lost his life.

According to Horry County Coroner Robert Edge, 39-year-old Elbert Mitchell III died from internal injuries as a result of his motorcycle accident. Police reports show that Mitchell crashed his bike into an SUV at Robert Grissom Parkway and Highway 501. Although police aren't certain of his final destination, Mitchell's friends reported that he was heading to a cookout somewhere near Robert Grissom.

A fellow officer, Mitchell worked for the Durham Police Department since 1997. The South Carolina Highway Patrol MAIT team was called in later that night to help with the investigation.
