Jury Awards $2.9 Million to Bus Crash Victim

A New York jury has awarded $2.9 million to a woman who was badly hurt when she was a passenger on a bus that hit a car which was making an illegal U-turn. Jurors awarded the money to the woman after finding that the bus driver was 95 percent liable for the woman's injuries. The driver whose car collided with the bus was found 5 percent liable.

The bus was behind and Acura when the Acura’s driver slowed down in front of the bus to make an illegal U-turn. The bus driver slammed on the brakes, sending passengers out their seats. A total of seven passengers have made injury claims as a result of the accident.

When the collision occurred, the plaintiff was sitting with a baby in her lap. She moved her body to better protect the child and was forcefully thrown into the seat in front of her causing her injuries. Her injuries were comprised of a torn rotator cuff and herniated disks. She had to undergo multiple surgeries in order to recover from her injuries and is still on the road to recovery although some of them will be permanently disabling.a
