Police Looking Into Construction Accident

Police are reporting that a Spanish Fork construction worker was killed when a bucket fell from an excavating machine and landed on the man's chest.

The man who was hit in the construction accident, Ricardo Carmona, 31, of Kearns, is reported by police to have died shortly the incident.

Police Lt. Steve Adams said that two other workers and Carmona were working near an excavator that was breaking up concrete, when the excavator became unstable and caused its bucket to come loose. The bucket plunged into the hill that Carmona was working in and fell on him.

Adams said that when paramedics arrived, Carmona was still conscious and breathing, but he died in an ambulance as paramedics were taking him to a medical helicopter.

The police say that no criminal charges are expected to be filed. Adams also said that the accident is being investigated by the state medical examiner and the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
