The carelessness of a hit and run driver not only injured two people but killed their horse last week in Cherryville, North Carolina. James Cody Burke, 24, and Carlee Jones, 22, were riding the horse back from their local Wal-Mart when their horse was hit by a car. That car also struck the vehicle of the friend that they had stopped to talk to before driving off. The two riders were thrown to the pavement and received extensive injuries.
Police and emergency personnel with Gaston Emergency Medical Services prepared them for transport to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte. They are being treated in intensive care for head injuries and were last reported as being in fair condition.
Gaston County Police Department officers are still investigating the accident and ask that the public step forward with any relevant information to this car accident.
