Victim of Interstate 85 Accident Identified

When Results Matter Most, Hire a Heavyweight

The truck driver who lost his life on Interstate 85 last week has finally been identified.

According to the North Carolina Highway Patrol, a tractor-trailer rig overturned on the interstate, causing traffic to slow down. However, shortly after the accident happened, a second accident occurred as a result. NCHP Sergeant Jorge Brewer believes that 42-year-old Steven Craig Thompson was operating his semi-truck at speeds over the posted limit when he ran into the back a tanker truck that had slowed down for the first accident. What resulted was a serious crash and an explosion that killed both drivers.

While officers were able to identify the driver of the gas truck immediately as 44-year-old Billy Dean Brady Jr., the second victim took longer to name. His identity was finally released this week as Steven Craig Thompson, 42. In addition to the two drivers who lost their lives, six additional people were hurt in the accident. It took emergency crews several hours to not only extinguish the fire but to clean up the wreckage that littered I-85.
